Commercial vehicle accidents often lead to severe injuries

When a crash first takes place, it may not be immediately clear what exactly happened. However, after commercial vehicle accidents, it may be immediately apparent that serious injuries have resulted and help is needed right away. Unfortunately, accidents involving 18-wheelers are notorious for causing severe injuries.

It was recently reported that a crash involving an 18-wheeler and a passenger car took place in Louisiana. The big rig was traveling on the I-12 overpass heading west when it collided with a car. After the initial collision, the truck went down an embankment and ended up on the northbound lanes of I-55 below the overpass. The truck came to a stop after hitting a guardrail. It was unclear what exactly caused the accident.

The smaller vehicle involved sustained substantial damage, and one individual inside had to be cut out of the vehicle by emergency crews. That person was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. It was not mentioned whether any other parties involved suffered injuries. An investigation into the incident was underway at the time of the report, and information regarding who may have been at fault was not yet available.

If the driver of the truck is considered at fault for the accident, the injured party may have reason to pursue a personal injury claim against that driver. As with many commercial vehicle accidents, it may also be warranted for the injured person to include the trucking company for which the driver works in such a claim. Gaining information on taking such action in Louisiana may be useful.
