Car accidents: Children injured after being struck by car

People of all ages can be out on foot. In many cases, they may need to cross streets in order to get to their destinations, which can pose a hazard as drivers do not always pay close attention or watch for pedestrians. Unfortunately, car accidents involving pedestrians often lead to serious injuries to those who are hit.

Drunk driving car accidents continue to prove fatal

Though most people are on the road at least one day a week, there is no guarantee that they will always make it to their destinations. Car accidents happen on a regular basis, and unfortunately, far too many of them prove fatal. In fact, drunk drivers contribute to a number of those fatal incidents.

Fatal car accidents may warrant wrongful death claims

While many people enjoy driving, there are many others who do not think of it as an exciting activity. Of course, unexpected events on the road can happen at any time, including fatal car accidents. In some cases, those accidents are caused by drivers who fail to stay in the correct lane.

Wrong-way car accidents often send people to the hospital

No driver wants to see another vehicle heading straight toward him or her on the roadway. Unfortunately, some drivers fail to maintain the correct lane when traveling, and when they cross into the other lane of travel, head-on car accidents commonly occur. These events typically have serious outcomes and can cause injuries to those involved.

Auto accidents, sleep problems and the recovery process

A motor vehicle collision can cause someone’s life to spiral out of control in many different ways. They may not be able to keep their job because of injuries that they sustained, or they may experience financial hardships that are overwhelming. Sometimes, people who are involved in such a collision may have a hard time sleeping at night. For example, they may develop a sleeping disorder that prevents them from sleeping for very long, which can be detrimental in many ways.

The dangers of taking selfies while driving

As drivers are navigating the Louisiana roadways alongside large commercial trucks, motorcyclists and other vehicles, it may seem common sense that their focus should remain on the road. Yet, an alarming number of motorists find it acceptable to use their cellphones while behind the wheel. This occurs even after a number of social campaigns have emerged notifying motorists of the dangers associated with using their cellphones while driving. Thousands of people are killed and injured every year as a result of distracted driving. One trend is taking cellphone use a step further and involves people taking selfies of themselves driving and posting the pics on social media platforms.

Why driving at night is more deadly

Once the sun sets in Louisiana, drivers still fill the roadways. Many people are coming home from work, running errands and escaping their home for a night out with friends. As a result, the roads can still be quite busy, even in low light conditions. What you may not realize is that you face an increased danger when driving at night than during the day. AAA reports that you are three times more likely to die in a car accident during nighttime hours than you are during the day. So what exactly is to blame for this increased risk and what can you do about it?

The dangers of using hands-free cellphones while driving

In many states, drivers are prohibited from using hand-held cell phones while navigating the roadways. Distracted driving is involved in thousands of car accidents every year. Although it is not against the law for drivers in Louisiana to use a hand-held cellphone while behind the wheel, it certainly is not a good idea. Many drivers have started using hands-free cellphones to minimize distraction. Yet, even hands-free cellphones can cause catastrophic car accidents that can injure and kill innocent people.

What to do if you spot an aggressive driver

Aggressive driving can cause dangerous situations on Louisiana roadways. Despite this well-known fact, more than 80% of people across the country admit to having been enraged while driving, according to AAA. Whether you are stuck in traffic enroute to an important meeting or you are stuck behind a slow driver in the passing lane, you may have also been angry while behind the wheel at some point within the last year. Road rage can be troubling, however, because of the dangerous driving behaviors that often accompany it. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that over a five-year period, 56% of fatal car accidents involved aggressive driving behaviors, such as speeding.

How many people are hurt and killed in drowsy driving crashes?

Drowsy driving is a serious problem, and drivers may become drowsy for a number of reasons. Some people may be tired because they are trying to adjust to a new work schedule, while others may struggle with fatigue because of an unusually long day at work. Certain medications can make drivers drowsy, and there are other reasons why drowsy driving occurs. Unfortunately, this behavior can result in a fatal crash, and many people have been hurt in drowsy driving wrecks as well. It is imperative to understand just how many lives have been lost due to drowsy driving.
