Commercial vehicle accidents continue to happen too often

Many people on Louisiana roadways feel uncomfortable when driving next to tractor-trailers. After all, these large vehicles can make it difficult for drivers to see, and when commercial vehicle accidents occur, the outcomes are often catastrophic. As a result, it is important to use extra caution when around these vehicles.

When it comes to statistics regarding big rig accidents, many people may be afraid of what they will learn. Indeed, 500,000 truck-related accidents take place every year in the United States, and thousands of those accidents have fatal outcomes. In fact, over an eight-year span, accidents involving trucks and buses saw an increase of 42%.

Unfortunately, driver error continues to be one of the leading causes of these incidents. Drivers may not adjust for road conditions, may drive while drowsy, carry out illegal maneuvers, drive while distracted and suffer side effects from over-the-counter drug use. Of course, other issues can contribute to these incidents as well, and it was reported that brake failure is the main vehicle-related issue that contributes to a significant number of truck crashes in the United States.

Ending up in commercial vehicle accidents is not anyone’s idea of a good time. Unfortunately, many Louisiana residents may find themselves the victims of such crashes and could end up suffering serious injuries as a result. After such an event, it is common for victims to experience many hardships, and there may be reason for those affected to file personal injury claims against the driver considered at fault and the company for which he or she works. A successful claim could result in much-needed compensation.
